So I went to Katie's family's x-mas party, which was lots of fun. her family is really nice to me, and that's is a big relief, of course. it's kinda cool that they know me. anyhow, aside from just the company, the food was wonderful (special nods to the homemade hummus, chicken, and many many desserts) but i managed to maintain my diet without too much by way of overeating. (i certainly didn't help myself lose weight tonight, but i did keep myself from gaining i believe).
Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah all!

So yeah I got up at 4:30 this morning to make it to art class. Deargod.

College is lots of fun, though I think I'm going to have to be very
careful to enough sleep, as I have been getting up before everyone to
shower in the morning (today a around 8, and yesterday around 7).
Yesterday evening I went to Zinc, a fusion cuisine (though it calls itself "modern american") restaurant, which was excellent. I had a fun, if a little odd, experience last night hanging out with the Yale College Conservatives after the restaurant. I left there a little
after 12, and would have been fine if Matt (suitemate) hadn't decided
that 1:25 was a great time to start an episode of family guy. Which,
of course, I watched. Oops. Current Mood: just awake enough

I thought that part of my email sounded like an lj entry, so...
The first day was lots of fun and high energy. People are friendly,
though of course there are are the awkward moments. Moving in went
very smoothly, I must say, and the room is amazing, especially the
huge closet (as wide as mine at home, and far deeper with an
additional shelf on top). The bed (however small), is really comfy
with the mattress pads and everyone who has seen the rooms says it
really nice. The suite itself is also large, and all my suitemates are
easy to get along with so far.
x-posted from gmail. also, this is my first post from my new iMac G5 20". woohoo!
I just had my first Yale shower. Wasn't bad, because it being 7:00 AM, I was the only one up. Current Mood: excited

[ "so, if i poke a cow like this ::pokes the air with one finger:: it'll tip?" ]
quote brought to us by Aury, who will be starting her biochem program at U-Penn in weeks.
Today I had a brunch at my house, mostly as a way to see some of us seniors who will be scattered across the country so soon. Leslie was in NY city, Kristin working, Katherine in France or Ireland, and Matt in Rome, but Sam, Katie, Landon, Aury and, to my surprise, Stephanie (surprise because I couldn't reach her for days, but called back today around 11:30).
Food included: bacon, mushroom omelets, mango shakes, waffles with various boiling sugary sauces, pita and fresh humus, garden tomatoes with basil and mozzarella and olive oil, and fresh baked bread. All in all, delicious.
After bruncheon, and Landon and Sam departing, the rest of us went to Robinson for Aury to look for a new dell (and apparently decided the one she liked the best was the same model she currently owns). Katie and I also ddred (i now suck, which is sad) and I injured my toe (the degree of which i didn't find out until i was home -- i seem to have torn off some skin. ouch). We then went to Ikea, looked at Swedish stuff, then bought swedish meatballs (2.5 lbs) and swedish orangina-like stuff and had dinner at Katie's. The biggest hitch of the day was probably me not being able to find my keys and phone for a few minutes, until the (great relief) of finding them in Aury's car. Current Mood: tired but good

Putting away the woolens today.
|Monday, June 27th, 2005|
I am working full time this summer at the Chatham Arts camp, which is a very cute experience, as most of the kids I am instructing/counselor for (I have a very flexible position) are K-5 or so (also a very trying job, but worth it).
Point being, I am working 7.5 hours a day 5 days a week for 6 weeks, and my boss won't give me one day off (asked weeks in advance) to go to my governor's school reunion. This seems silly.
Katie came over yesterday, and my old piano teacher and her husband (who hired my dad for his current job of 20+ years) were visiting from Utah. It was a nice dinner, and we all did particularly well on Katie's STILL WARM "Chocolate Intrigue" cake.
More work tomorrow, but I'm subbing for an art teacher for older kids (grades 3rd-8th) so that should be relaxing by comparison.

[ Graduation ]
Got up late, which was nice, and ate left overs from my graduation party yesterday, which was fun. The crab cakes were a tasty late brunch.
Graduation itself wasn't so bad. Problem was mainly the heat (about 85) in the mandatory blue blazers (yuck). It was also a bit long winded, but I rather liked Dr. Shanon's speech. Somehow this didn't feel much different from other school assemblies where the senior's processed. Maybe more uncomfortable onstage, due to heat. But after leaving the auditorium, I just was looking for a way out, just like after any other ceremony where the hallway was full. Somehow, I failed to feel either nostalgic, or, more surprisingly, relieved. It didn't seem different. I suppose it will set in at some point, but there was hardly an overflow of emotion today.
Went to Whitney and Paul's graduation party, and the Pegden's house, I must say, was quite impressive. The party was fun, and Katie and I were low key, and just hung out in the pretty garden and enjoyed the good food, Mark's random entrances, and cuddling.
I am now very tired. Maybe more later on my graduation party, which I had a great time at. Current Mood: sleepy

[ AP Deutsch = done ]
This morning I had fun studying for the AP by reading manga in german that my dad brought back from switzerland. It actually did end up helping me, as I caught a word on the AP that I wouldn't have known without the manga.
The german ap today went about as well as I could hope for it to go (seeing as I've had 3 real yrs. of german, and no immersion-style or intensive training). This, of course, does not mean really well. Maybe a 3 if I'm lucky. The only truly amusing horrible mistake was me blanking on one 20-second listening-then-spoken response part, where I replied to "Why were you so late (or somesuch thing)?" with roughly (in broken german) , "[zone out] [zone in] [panic] Uh.. I went home and I couldn't [forgets word for start] FIND my car. I couldn't find it because [blanks] it is VERY SMALL."
Truly a remarkable reply. Still, seeing as I am into college and decided, and a second semester senior, and these tests never really counted for anything to begin with, I think I'm ok.
After school Katie had to leave, which was too bad, but it was pretty fun hanging out with Sam and co. (leslie, katherine, aury, guido) at his house. We had tea and (truly tasty) honey-mustard pretzels. Current Mood: cheerful
|Sunday, May 1st, 2005|
things have gotten better since Wednesday, which was all around just a pathetic day.
Friday afternoon was a great way to kick off the weekend. Katie and Landon and I headed to Loew's to catch (by some miracle) The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which was a lot of fun. Afterwards, we had some time to kill before dropping me off at 7:00, so we went to Coldstone Creamery. When dropping me off, my dad, just back from Switzerland, invited katie and landon in and we ordered mario's pizza and salad, and hung out. katie got back probably close to 9:30, which was planned on, so fine. this is ap week coming up, after all.
Saturday was great. In the morning I finished (mostly to my satisfaction) the huge painting i've been working on for 4 weeks. in the afternoon I had a bit of runaround, sending back all 10 college forms saying "i'm not coming" (I sent out the actual decision letter "i'm coming, please don't give me a roommate who is evil" form to yale on thursday). saturday night, katie came for dinner, and we went out to our first swing dancing class. Katie called the majority of the crowd being 40+, but i did predict the 1 college couple. still, the class was really fun, and the teacher impressed me both as being a good dancer but also a good teacher. after class we came back to my house, and, in a first, my parents actually eased up and just went to bed basically with teh message "make sure she's home at some point not too late." The fact that neither one actually woke up again to check that she was gone by some sensible time was a pleasant surprise.
today is ap math study day (plus working out in the morning, ow, my triceps). The math studying really shouldn't be too bad. Current Mood: chipper

[ spring break ]
has been lovely, thus far. Aside from minor altercations with my dad when(ever?) I want to socialize. Grudgingly, perhaps, he has indeed let me have friends over almost without exception. I would just be nice if I didn't need to get grief about it.
I have, thus far accomplished for productive things (homework, etc.) only a litte. I have had a number of wonderful dates with Katie, and seen some of my friends in the east end (alec, josiah, dan) and made some money selling, of all things, the magic cards I thought only a few weeks ago would never be touched again.
I did, yesterday, have an experience. I knew I had my job interview for working at the Chatham Arts summer camp (beats flipping burgers), so when, at 10:55, my dad asks "When is your interview" I reply, "hmm... about 3 I think, lemme check. Wait! Dad! It's at 11:00" (meanwhile, having looked at the sheet I see that it really is for 10:45, but I make the decision to say 11:00 based on the fact that I suspect my dad would have died in an auto accident getting us there had I told him otherwise).
So, we get to Chatham (which is very close, really) about 11:05. Mr. Timmis, my interviewer, and head of the whole program, had left at 11:00. I got lucky when, having reached him on his cell, he came back.
The interview went well. Enough, apparently, that despite being 30 minutes late, I landed a position teaching outdoor art.
In other news, I got into Haverford today (along with Pitt and Oberlin, making 2 thus far). Woo! Current Mood: cheerful
